When you learn the timing, you will rarely make the mistake of making the punching gesture without actually getting your boxer to punch. If you think you are timing your punches correctly and they still aren't being launched accurately with your own, try pulling your fist back slightly before punching. This will make the punch much more likely to register. Blocking [ edit ] There are two forms of blocking in this game. One blocks shots at your head, and the other blocks shots aimed at your body. To block punches aimed at your face, hold your fists close together and put them in front of your face as a real boxer might do. To block bodyshots, keep your fists tight together but hold them down by your stomach. Dodging [ edit ] Lean your body left, right or back to dodge punches. This can also be done by simply moving the Wii Remote and nunchuk together in these directions if you are not feeling very energetic. The second method is also faster. If you dodge a punch you will often notice that the game slows down briefly and makes a "whoosh" sound effect. This is the indicator that you can throw a counter-punch. If you throw the correct kind of punch during that window, it will deal extra damage. You will know if you made a counter-punch by the loud slamming sound coming from the wiimote speaker. A properly aimed counter cannot be dodged, making it invaluable against skilled opponents. An improperly aimed counter will either miss completely or bounce harmlessly off your opponent's glove. Knockouts (KO) [ edit ] There are basically two ways to score a KO against your opponent. The most common way is by repeatedly knocking down your opponent. Each time they are knocked down, the chance they will get up again decreases, and if they do get up, their maximum health will be two units lower than before. The other way is much faster, but also more difficult. The more punches you land in a row without missing before a knockdown, the less likely they are to get up again. To get up from a knockdown down, motion the Wii Remote and Nunchucks as if you are jabbing in an alternating motion. Play Modes [ edit ] Single Player mode - One player versus one computer opponent. How skilled the computer opponent is depends on your skill level. Two Player mode - Battle against another human player. It's a free-for-all for both players and whoever knocks out the other opponent wins the match. Scoring [ edit ] If a fight 'goes the distance' (nobody gets knocked out during the three rounds) it will be decided on points. The points system seems to be based entirely on knockdowns—for example, if you knocked your opponent down twice in round one but he only knocked you down once, then you win round one; if you both knocked each other down once in the round, you tie that round. If you win a round you get a point, and if you tie a round both players get a point. Then the player with the most points wins the fight. If you both knock each other down in a round, or neither of you does, often the round will still be decided in favor of one player or the other. This is done based on health level. It doesn't get affected in multiplayer. If you win, your skill level will increase and the computer player will be tougher the next time around. The more times you get knocked down in a fight, the fewer skill points you will earn. The higher your skill level, the larger this penalty is. NFL Betting: Beware Winning Teams With Negative Point Differentials? November 28, 2020 - by Jason Lisk. We have been banned from Baker Mayfield's book club (Photo by Ian Johnson/Icon Sportswire) The Cleveland Browns are 7-3 as we head toward the closing stretch of the 2020 season, and in position to make the playoffs. That would be something that hasn’t happened for Cleveland since 2002. However, the manner in which they have gotten to 7-3 is not all that inspiring: The Browns have been outscored by 23 points on the season, thanks in part to two blowout losses at the hands of Pittsburgh and Baltimore. They have only a single win over a team with a winning record (Indianapolis). They have gone a probably-lucky 4-0 in close games. If you haven’t made the postseason in nearly two decades, you aren’t going to quibble with getting there in an ugly fashion. The Browns still have to get there, but their upcoming schedule is favorable, so that’s a positive. Two of the remaining six games are against the two worst teams in the league, including Jacksonville this week. Putting Cleveland’s Point Differential In Context. Still, the Browns’ negative point differential after 10 games doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. What should NFL bettors make of it? For comparison’s sake, Cleveland currently has the same season point differential as Atlanta, and a point differential that is within 7 points of Houston, New England, Chicago, and Carolina. Most of those teams are holding on to slim playoff hopes, while Cleveland has higher expectations. Let’s take a look at how teams like Cleveland have performed down the stretch. Win/Loss & ATS Records For Winning Teams With Negative Point Differentials. Here’s a historical note, after a search using Sports Reference’s StatHead Team Game Finder: Going back to World War 2, no team has been 7-3 with a point differential as bad as Cleveland this year. In fact, Denver in 1992 is the only other team to be 7-3 after 10 games with a negative point differential (-8). Going back to 1990, when the six-team per conference playoff field began, there have been 33 teams that had a winning record after 10 games but also got outscored over that span. All of them but the aforementioned 1992 Denver team had a record of 6-4, and on average this group got outscored by 15.8 points through 10 games. How did those teams do for the rest of the year? Here is a summary: 86-112 straight up (43.4%) 84-106-8 against the spread (46.5%) Only 12 of the 33 made the playoffs No team won more than one playoff game. For a group of teams that all had winning records after 10 games, that’s not great, and it certainly appears like the “getting outscored by an average of 15.8 points” fact was more meaningful than than the “winning record after 10 games” fact. These teams closed the season with a losing record as a group, and also underperformed against the spread. The Most Recent Examples. The five most recent examples before the Browns this year are: 2019 Oakland (finished 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS) 2018 Washington (finished 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS) 2017 Tennessee (finished 3-3 SU, 5-1 ATS, made playoffs) 2016 Houston (finished 3-3 SU, 1-5 ATS, made playoffs) 2014 San Francisco (finished 2-4 SU and 0-5-1 ATS) (For what it’s worth, those 1992 Broncos, the only other 7-3 team with a negative point differential, finished 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS.) It’s a very small sample size, of course, but some caution could be warranted in terms of backing the Browns going forward. The Cleveland Browns Outlook For 2020. Entering the Week 12 Sunday slate, Cleveland sits at No. 23 in our NFL predictive power rankings, between 3-7 Atlanta and 3-6-1 Philadelphia — certainly lower than where one would expect most 7-3 teams to be ranked. (The next worst-ranked team with at least 7 wins is Buffalo at No. 15). Since our ratings are driven largely by scoring differentials, which have proven predictive power, that’s not a big surprise. In terms of future schedule, the Browns still play three teams still who are below them in our rankings (Jacksonville, NY Giants, NY Jets). On the flip side, the Browns also have three tough games against Tennessee, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh game is set for Week 17, which might be a week where the Steelers are resting starters depending on the playoff outlook. But with the Browns projecting more like an average team with an inflated win-loss record, there’s a good chance that the final week of the 2020 season will be important for their playoff chances. Our NFL season projections currently have Cleveland at 9.8 wins on average, and a 58% chance of making the playoffs. The Browns have already lost the tiebreaker head-to-head to the Las Vegas Raiders, they have lost to Baltimore (now a game behind them), and play Tennessee on the road. If history is an indication, Cleveland will be right near the cut line to finish with 10 wins, which would require winning three of their last six games.

If you’re not familiar with the term, the moneyline is best described as the odds you get when you bet on who will win a game straight up. When you take the spread out of the occasion, betting becomes less about luck and more about spotting your opportunities and taking advantage of them. The unfortunate reality is that most amateur bettors ignore the moneyline because of the risk involved. Either you bet on a favorite and risk losing more than you stand to gain, or you bet on the underdog and have a much higher chance to lose your bet. With that being said, the moneyline presents a unique chance to win big if you have the right strategy in place. In this article, I’ll lay out the factors to take into consideration that could help you capitalize on moneyline bets in all sports. 1 – Selection Is Key. In the same way the real estate is about location, location, location, betting on the moneyline is all about selection, selection…you get the point. Whereas betting on the spread can leave more opportunity to win bets when you don’t really know what you’re doing, consistently adding to your bankroll via moneyline bets requires you to be picky when deciding which games to play. Obviously, the trick in finding the best value is identifying games in which the underdog has a chance to win, or betting on a favorite isn’t too costly. However, if you’re playing multiple games at once, you can take a few more chances. It’s important to keep in mind that sportsbooks adjust their moneylines in accordance with the public’s action, so you can find instances where the odds actually lean slightly your way if you have more knowledge of a game. It’s probably best to stay away from favorites in the -250 to -300 range, as this is the spot where upsets are still entirely possible and it’s not worth it to make a bet where you’ll only return a third of your money. If you’re the type of bettor who wants to play the favorites, consider giving away some points, even if it’s not the full spread. This will increase your payouts and slightly close the gap between risk and reward. Another move that can be profitable is a multi-team parlay with moneyline favorites. In any given NFL week, you can choose the top three or four most lopsided games and still get a nice haul if you hit on each. While you might only win the same amount you bet, meaning $100 to win $100, it’s not necessarily too big of a risk. Just keep in mind that, as the cliché goes, anyone can win on any given Sunday. The best odds for betting favorites exists in the -150 to -200 range. These lines present an opportunity to win back decent money for your bet. Obviously, you’re going to suffer some losses that will make you feel like it’s pointless to bet on the favorite, but that’s the price you pay for picking the team that “should” win. 4 – Consider the Sport. Bettors who like gambling on baseball and hockey games are acquainted with the power of the moneyline in a unique way. Unlike basketball and football, baseball and hockey’s “default” play is who will win the game outright. Most baseball betting purists will contend that it’s always a smarter move to put your money on the underdog. After all, even the worst teams in the league win about 60 times per year. Because of the unpredictability of who will win is so high, when you’re able to find an underdog at -200 or more, the value is hard to resist. Though the winning percentage numbers are slightly different, the same philosophy holds true for hockey. Things are a little different when it comes to betting on football and basketball moneylines. In football, if there’s a favorite of -200 or more, statistically, they’re much more likely to win the game outright than in other sports. Basketball can be a bit more difficult, as good teams are susceptible to upsets, but only in certain situations. If you’re betting on the NBA, do your research to find out which scenarios create a better chance for the underdog to win and you can make educated plays with high value. Determining the likelihood of underdogs winning outright is always going to be a complicated proposition, so make sure to do research specific to the sport you want to bet on before taking the leap. 5 – Assess Value. All gamblers know that the key to a good betting strategy is making plays with good value. Finding value is a concept that’s easy in theory, but extremely difficult in practice. Sportsbooks put a value on each time via the moneyline, and while this is a good starting point, it isn’t necessarily always accurate. This means that you’ll have to do some work on your end to see if your prediction of the potential outcome of a game align with the odds presented. The best way to do this is by first evaluating each game without looking at the moneyline. It’s unlikely that you’ll give up betting on spreads entirely, but adding the moneyline option to your betting strategy can have huge benefits. In just about any game — professional sports or otherwise — there’s going to be an expected winner and an expected loser. Teams and players rarely have the exact same level of talent, so when, say, the 11th-place Kings have to play the first-place Lakers, we aren’t expecting Sacramento to come away with a win. And while that may not be the most complicated concept to understand, it’s a fundamental one when it comes to sports betting — the underdog . What Is an Underdog? In sports betting, an underdog is a team or player expected to lose a given game or event. In the example above, the underdog would be the Kings, as they’d be expected to lose against the Lakers, who would be the favorite. And oddsmakers have two ways of quantifying how big an underdog is: the spread and the moneyline. How Do I Know Who Is the Underdog? Point Spread Underdog. The “spread” is the difference between the two teams in play in terms of their expected points to be scored in the game. This allows bettors to make bets on how close a game will be, as opposed to simply betting on the winner and loser. The greater the spread, the bigger the underdog. In the case above, the Kings are seen as 11.5-point underdogs against the Lakers. That means that in order for a Kings bet to win, they’d need to lose by no more than 11 points, or win the game outright. If they were to lose by 12 points or more, Sacramento bettors would lose their money. You’ll notice that both spreads are listed in front of a minus number (-110). That number is simply to denote the vig (tax) taken by the sportsbook. In other words, regardless of which spread you choose to take, you’ll have to risk $110 to win $100 (or $11 to win $10, etc.). In some cases, though, the teams will be seen as even matches, and the spread will be zero points (called a pick’em). In such a game, assuming the vig is once again -110 on each side, there is no underdog. If one team’s vig was lower, however (-105 vs. -115, for example), that team would be considered a very slight underdog, as that would mean it would take a $105 bet to win $100, as opposed to a $115 risk for the other side. Moneyline Underdog. Reading moneyline odds is very similar to reading the vig, with the only difference being the numbers can be far more distant from even. In moneyline sports (baseball and hockey are the main American ones), you’re betting on which team will simply win the game, rather than the expected margin of victory. Sometimes you’ll come across games in which both teams will have a minus sign (-115 vs. -105, for example). In such a game, just like in the pick’em example above, the team listed with a smaller number (-105) is considered the slight underdog. Should You Bet on Underdogs? There is no simple answer to this question. If there were, bookmakers would be out of business in a hurry. Of course, underdogs lose games more often than favorites, but that’s not to say that they necessarily lose more money for bettors than favorites. In fact, in the NFL, underdogs have covered the spread to the tune of a 2224-2169-135 record (50.6%) since 2003. Because of the vig, that still has resulted in an overall loss of money, but it’s less money lost than would have come from taking every favorite. On baseball moneylines, underdogs have gone 15,683-21,231 since 2005, but once again, have not lost quite as much money for bettors as favorites have. Neither of those figures should be taken to suggest that you should only bet underdogs, but rather that the betting market has the game of sports betting pretty well figured out. The Basics To Sports Betting Strategy. In order to help yourself make money or a profit from sports betting there are a couple of basic strategies or tips you will want to understand and follow. None of these sports betting strategies are secrets by any means, but following them will help you win money betting on sports. The bettors who don’t follow any of these strategies are often referred to as “squares” and those are the type of bettors that the sportsbooks will make their profits from. #1 Money Management/Bankroll Management. When you are betting on sports you should always set aside a certain amount of money, which we refer to as your “bankroll”, in which you can afford to lose. Like with any type of gambling, you never want to bet betting on sports with money you cannot afford to lose. Set aside a certain amount of money that you can use for your bankroll for the week, the month, or the season. A general sports betting strategy for money management is to only make bets with 1%-5% of your bankroll. For example, if your bankroll for the NFL season was $1,000 you would be making $10-$50 bets on each NFL game you wanted to bet on. It is also very important that you do not chase your loses with bigger bets. It is common for some sports bettors to be down money and feel in order to win it back they need to increase the size of their bets. This is putting yourself in the wrong mindset and will often lead to you losing even more money. Work with the size of your bankroll, and look to slowly increase it over the length of the season. Although betting while sober seems like common sense, you’d be surprised how many people bet on sports under the influence. I don’t want to sound like your mother here, but betting while under the influence will impair your judgement and should definitely be avoided if you want to become a winning sports bettor. The second part of this tips is “Don’t Go on Tilt”. Going on tilt or “tilting” is a commonly referred to term with poker players and basically means letting your emotions take over, which often leads to bad decisions. If you are angry or upset at something, such as a couple bad beats with your sports bets, you shouldn’t be placing any more bets. Take a break, go for a walk, get your mind clear before you start making anymore sports betting picks. #3 Do Your Homework. This is maybe the most important sports betting strategy. You will always want to do your research before placing your bets. Although going with your hunch when betting your favorite sport may work some of the time, in the long run it will not lead to you winning money betting on sports. In order to profit from sports betting you will need to research, study, and do your homework for each pick you make. Look at stats, find trends, create sports betting systems, analyze past games – basically do everything you could possibly do to ensure you have value in your pick before you place your wager. #4 Line Shopping. A very big step to becoming a winning sports bettor is to make sure you are shopping for the best lines. More In The Series. While based in Russia in the 1990s, NPR's Anne Garrels followed developments in the "real Russia" from the provincial town of Chelyabinsk. Returning 10 years later, much has changed. This series charts this transformation. Russia continues to have a health crisis. Life expectancy for Russian men — 59 years — remains astonishingly low, and well below current levels in Pakistan and Bangladesh. That has combined with anemic fertility levels to cause a drop in population. According to United Nations predictions, Russia's population could fall by 30 percent by the middle of the century. President Dmitry Medvedev is determined to reverse the trend. His government offers birth bonuses of $9,500 — and the government is investing more into public health. Gains Made In Chelyabinsk. Chelyabinsk is in the middle of a baby boom — a result of recent economic improvements. Dr. Eduard Reebin, chairman of the Regional Legislatures Medical Commission, says care is much better than it was 10 years ago. "There's no comparison," Reebin says. "Of course, we still don't have what we want — no country does — but under Putin, there is a stable health program." Reebin recalls desperate times 10 years ago when he had to barter and scrounge for basic medicines. "The factories could not pay their share of the health insurance, so they would give me pipes," he says. "I would go to another region and trade them for rice, bring the rice back here, and sell it just to keep the hospital open." Those frightening times are over. But the system is still short of specialists, and diagnostic tools like CT scans and MRI are still rare. The wait for an MRI scan can be more than two months. Remaining Deficiencies. After a meeting with regional officials, the head of Hospital No. 8 rants about a tangled and unresponsive medical bureaucracy. Dr. Mikhail Verbitksy is a generally jovial fellow, but he is struggling to pay his staff a decent wage so they will stay in the profession. He has to skimp on physical improvements to pay his staff a little extra, but the hospital — built 60 years ago — is in terrible shape. There are no proper hospital beds or call buttons. There's a shortage of operating rooms. The hospital is overcrowded, with twice as many patients as originally planned for. The number of babies born there annually has jumped in the past year from 1,200 to 2,000 — good news for Russia, but a real strain on the hospital. Tanya Kelleher, who gave birth to twins, says her doctors were well-trained, but the overall conditions were appalling. "Horrible, horrible," Kelleher says. "A room with 10 women in it. You have to go to a pharmacy and buy everything — stitching, cotton wool. Everything you need during the birth, you buy and pay for. We were told to bring our own sugar. If you are a patient in a hospital, you better have a friend who can bring you food." In theory, medical care is free, but medicines are not — except for certain groups like invalids and pensioners. Repeated complaints in the media indicate that these groups are not getting the medicines they need and have been promised. Dr. Reebin acknowledges that this is an ongoing problem. "No one will be turned away, but there will always be medicines which are not available at the hospital, and the patient will have to purchase them at a pharmacy," he says. Clinics Struggle To Fill The Gap. What has dramatically changed in the past 10 years is the development of private clinics like Elena Konaeva's reproductive health center. A much-respected doctor, Konaeva specializes in infertility and now has 3,000 patients. "We have good doctors in Chelyabinsk," Konaeva says, "but they are spread out over various hospitals. You can get a good diagnosis at one hospital, good surgery at another. We try to link all that together and make it more comfortable." Given the system of under-the-table payments in state hospitals for expedited care and the provision of certain treatment, care from these clinics is not that much more expensive than so-called "free" care. "Take in vitro [fertilization]," Konaeva says. "You usually have to pay for this even in the state system. Until this year, there was no state hospital here in Chelyabinsk that could do in vitro, and state doctors here still have little experience. We work with a hospital in another city if patients need this treatment. It's the best in Russia." Konaeva's clinic — spotlessly clean with a rare air of efficiency — is comparable to any Western doctor's office. Many of her physicians, like urologist Grigory Bogdashov, are specialists in the state system who work here one day a week. "At the state hospital, I earn $200 a month, $400 with overtime," Bogdashov says. "Here, I can make $200 in three hours of work, without the mess, the pressure and the horrible conditions." Dr. Konaeva offers her patients preventive care, which she says the state system can no longer afford. Mammograms, for instance, are not routine and are done only when a problem arises. She sees too many underweight babies because of smoking, alcohol and inadequate prenatal care. She worries that too many Russian women still use abortion as a means of birth control. There are still more abortions than live births, with the consequent impact on fertility rates. "It's a sad statistic," Konaeva says, "but a true one." Five years ago, this clinic took an initial investment of $150,000 and had a vision. Dr. Konaeva has made back her investment. Her dream was realized. And behind her, lining the wall, are snapshots of Chelyabinsk's next generation — the babies she has helped bring into the world.

The American Odds have two components to them, the first being the positive or negative sign, and the second being the number that follows the sign. The next step is figuring out exactly how much the bet pays out, which is where the numbers in the odds come into play. A listed odd with a – sign in front of it, such as the -140 in our example above, shows us how much money you would need to wager in order to win $100. So using the -140, this would show us that you would need to bet $140 in order to win $100 in profits. You can easily substitute the $100 bet for a $10 bet by moving the decimal place over one spot, showing us that you would need to wager $14 in order to win $10 in profits. With seven career interceptions, he’s proven to not only be a constant ball disruptor, but he’s a safety that can change the momentum of games by getting the ball back to his team. His biggest improvements must come in run support, as he’s a safety that isn’t afraid to come up and tackle, but his tactics and aggressiveness while doing so can be out of control. Moehrig is also reliable in man coverage, but his eye discipline while doing so will need to improve as he is premature with looking back to the quarterback, which is why he’s been a popular double-move target for opposing offenses. He demonstrates good agility in off coverage to close separation at the top of the route. He plays with the instincts and football IQ necessary to thrive in zone situations. He has very good ball skills to locate and track, while also demonstrating the competitiveness to close and get his hands on the football. No. 74 - Tyler Shelvin, DL, LSU. A 5-star recruit in 2017, LSU defensive lineman Tyler Shelvin redshirted his first year on campus, found some playing time as a redshirt freshman in 2018, and showcased his dominant run-stopping ability as a starter in 2019 before opting out of the 2020 season. Shelvin is a straightforward evaluation—he’s a massive interior defensive lineman who is outstanding against the run but doesn’t offer much on passing downs outside of pushing the pocket. Shelvin isn’t a dynamic run defender simply because he’s big and strong, he knows how to fit his hands, find the football, disengage, and finish. Shelvin plays with tremendous urgency on every snap and competes hard in pursuit despite limited range. He’s dominant against single blocks and more than holds his own against doubles. For a guy who is going to be asked to fill an unselfish role in the NFL, he embraces taking on blocks, absorbing double teams, eating space, and keeping the second-level clean. Shelvin has the makings of a dominant run-stuffing 3-4 nose tackle or 4-3 one-technique, but his value is limited to running downs.

There is buzz growing about Oklahoma State freshman Cade Cunningham potentially being the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he will have the opportunity to sparkle on a big stage on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla., against No. 6 Texas. The Longhorns got a 77-74 win, but failed to cover, when these two hooked up in December, and Cunningham led all players with 25 points. For the season, he is averaging 18.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while making 39.7 percent of his 3-point shots. Texas will look to neutralize and offset all Cunningham does by winning on the inside. To do so, the Longhorns will need to cut down on the fouls. In true road games, Texas is fouling on 28.4 percent of its defensive possessions, which ranks 337th in the nation. In the first meeting, ball movement was lacking for both teams. Oklahoma State doled out just seven assists and Texas nine. Both teams are amassing more turnovers per game than assists. Each of Oklahoma State’s top five scorers who have made at least one 3-point shot is making at least 35.7 percent of them, and Texas has allowed four of its last five opponents to shoot at least 36 percent from 3-point range. The Cowboys have what it takes to shoot their way to victory and allow Cunningham’s draft stock to continue to skyrocket.

This will be his fourth consecutive headliner event. He is coming off a fifth-round KO/TKO against Augusto Sakai Sept. 5, 2020 at this very same venue. In fact, it was his seventh straight fight which ended via KO/TKO, with four wins and three losses during the span. Since arriving at the highest level of MMA back on Dec. 30, 2011 in UFC 141’s main event against Brock Lesnar , 16 of his 19 fights ended by way of KO/TKO, with nine wins via knockout. Overeem has won three times via decision with no losses when the judges were involved, but that’s a rarity. You never need to worry about the submission with Overeem. Volkov (32-8) enters the octagon with a 4.76 to 3.71 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, although he is slightly behind Overeem at 64.14 to 58.98 in significant strikes-accuracy percentage. Volkov is coming off a KO/TKO of his own, taking care of Walt Harris Oct. 24, 2020 in Round 2 at UFC 254. He has four KO/TKO results (3-1) across his past six bouts overall. This will be a brawl, and there is a more than good chance it ends like so many others for these two, with someone getting knocked out.
